Information
The
First Virginia Regiment is now actively seeking individuals who
share our interest in the history of the men and events of the American
Revolution. Organized in 1975, the First Virginia is one of the
most recognized and sought out recreated groups today and we regularly
participate in battle reenactments, tactical demonstrations and
living history presentations.
Anyone
with an interest in the American Revolution and the time to devote
to this avocation is welcome. Membership is open to all persons
without regard to sex, color, creed, or national origin.
New
members are expected to equip themselves and learn the drill and
other information covered in the unit's Recruit Manual. Equipment
and clothing is available from the Regiment as well as from commercial
sources. New members may borrow clothing and gear so that they may
participate before they finish obtaining their own. The First Virginia
Regiment is a 501(c) 3 non-profit educational corporation and as
such the cost of expendable gear can be itemized on your tax return
(i.e. travel, clothing, shoes, period correct eyewear).
The
unit publishes a quarterly journal, "The Dispatch", and monthly
"Marching Orders " detailing appearances and other information.
The Regiment also maintains a telephone hotline to communicate event
updates. Please contact us -- we will be happy to answer any questions
you have and help you get started in this fun, rewarding and educational
hobby.
